June 18, 2005 UTC — Release 0.8.4 of Gotmail (http://gotmail.sf.net/) is
now available for download on-line. The focus of this release was to get
as many patches merged and bugs closed from the sourceforge.net project
tracker as possible. While last release fixed the hotmail.com page
structure change, this release focused on optional features. Also, this
release adds support for more than just hotmail.com and msn.com, and now
allows use from other supported domains like: charter.com, compaq.net,
hotmail.co.jp, hotmail.co.uk, hotmail.de, hotmail.fr, hotmail.it,
messengeruser.com, passport.com, and webtv.net.

One last addition is a Makefile to the package which allows for easy
install and uninstall of Gotmail and documentation.

Also, Gotmail is looking for more developers to help improve and
maintain the project. Please visit http://gotmail.sf.net/ and join the
gotmail-***@lists.sourceforge.net mailing list to learn more.

Here is a sample of the NEWS file:

Gotmail

* Added expansion of bash $HOME for the configure file.
* Merged patch remove-header.patch to add commandline option
for removing header.
* Merged patch to add procmail-option to both the conf and from commandline.
* Patched patch which adds exclude-folders option for commandline and for
the conf. file. Patched fix for moving mail around in the mailboxes.
* Changed the query string from "move" to the new "MoveTo".
* Added support for the various domains that are used for hotmail.com
accounts: charter.com, compaq.net, hotmail.co.jp, hotmail.co.uk,
hotmail.com, hotmail.de, hotmail.fr, hotmail.it, messengeruser.com,
msn.com, passport.com, webtv.net. Now a user can input these into the
conf file or through the commandline.
* Also, added a line to usage of sendmail to check perl version and then
get rid of wide character warnings that were getting printed.

Related Infrastructure

* Updated the README and cut out miscellaneous parts. Also, updated the
Authors section with reference to the new AUTHORS file.
* Added a basic Makefile with make all, install, dist, clean, distclean,
and uninstall. Now users can maintain and easily update the makefile on
their own.
* AUTHORS: Added an authors file to give credit to all those that have
contributed to this project.

About Gotmail

Gotmail (http://gotmail.sf.net/) is a free program (perl script) to
download mail from hotmail.com without user interaction. It is probably
best run from a cron job.
